Manipal Hospitals to Acquire Majority Stake in Sahyadri Hospitals, Strengthening Western India Presence

In a major consolidation move in India’s private healthcare sector, Manipal Hospitals has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a majority stake in Pune-based Sahyadri Hospitals from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP). OTPP had earlier taken over the stake from Ever-stone Capital in 2022.

Sahyadri Hospitals is among Maharashtra’s largest hospital chains, operating 11 hospitals with over 1,400 beds across cities such as Pune, Nashik, Ahilya Nagar, and Karad. With this acquisition, Manipal Hospitals’ total bed capacity is projected to rise to approximately 12,000.

Industry insiders estimate the deal value to be between ₹5,800 crore and ₹6,400 crore, although the official financial details remain undisclosed.

This acquisition marks another strategic step in Manipal Hospitals’ aggressive nationwide expansion. In recent years, the Bengaluru-based hospital chain has grown its footprint by acquiring Columbia Asia’s Indian hospitals, Medica Synergy, AMRI Hospitals in Kolkata, and Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru.

Currently serving over 7 million patients annually through a network of 8,500+ beds across 19 cities, Manipal Hospitals is further consolidating its position as one of India’s leading healthcare providers. Its majority shareholder, Singapore-based Temasek Holdings, holds a 59% controlling stake through its healthcare arm, Sheares Healthcare.
