Airport operator Navi Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (NMIAL) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Apollo Hospitals, Mumbai, to establish round-the-clock medical support for airport employees and passengers. Under the agreement, Apollo Hospitals will help set up a fully-equipped medical unit in Terminal 1, staffed 24×7 to handle emergencies and disaster response operations.
The medical centre will be manned by three doctors, eight nursing staff and two ambulance drivers. NMIAL confirms all medical personnel will be certified in advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS).
In addition, two fully outfitted Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ambulances will be stationed on the airport premises for rapid response, and 65 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) will be placed at strategic locations across the terminals to address cardiac emergencies.
Why this Matters
Having a 24×7 medical facility with ACLS-certified staff and specialised ambulances significantly enhances the safety net for both airport staff and travellers alike. NMIAL’s move aligns with global standards for modern airports and underlines a commitment to health and safety in a high-traffic hub.
What to Expect
- Immediate on-site emergency care at Terminal 1 for staff and flyers, irrespective of time.
- Dedicated ICU ambulances within the airport zone for quick patient transport if required.
- Widespread AED deployment to tackle potential cardiac episodes effectively.
Key Takeaway
The collaboration between Navi Mumbai Airport and Apollo Hospitals underscores a rising focus on integrated healthcare infrastructure at travel hubs. It marks an important step toward enhancing medical preparedness in one of India’s busiest airport facilities.
