Sancheti Hospital Expands with AI Innovation Lab

Sancheti Hospital, a renowned orthopaedic institution based in Pune, has expanded its clinical and technological capabilities with the launch of a state-of-the-art Advanced OrthoCare Facility along with a dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation Lab.

The newly inaugurated infrastructure adds 150 beds to the hospital and is equipped with cutting-edge operating theatres, multidisciplinary critical care units, advanced diagnostic facilities, and precision-driven robotic rehabilitation systems. Following this expansion, the hospital’s overall bed strength has crossed 300.

As part of its digital transformation journey, Sancheti Hospital has also established a specialised Artificial Intelligence Department. This includes the Sancheti AI Innovation Lab and an AI-powered platform named AIMD (Artificial Intelligence MD). These initiatives aim to assist healthcare professionals such as surgeons, anaesthetists, physiotherapists, and medical students, while also enhancing patient care through improved diagnostics, rehabilitation planning, and clinical decision support.

Built upon the hospital’s existing OrthoAI framework, AIMD is expected to evolve further by integrating additional medical domains, including cardiology and neurology. The platform is also designed to offer tools that can respond to patients’ routine health-related queries, thereby strengthening patient engagement even outside hospital settings.

Hospital leadership reiterated that the integration of AI is intended to complement—not replace—medical expertise, enabling clinicians to deliver more accurate, efficient, and personalised care.

During the launch ceremony, the hospital also unveiled SANBO, an AI-inspired mascot created to represent motion, innovation, and empathy. The mascot is intended to enhance patient interaction and support community outreach initiatives.

In recent developments, Sancheti Hospital has also rolled out one of the country’s most advanced robotic rehabilitation programmes. The programme has shown promising outcomes in improving mobility, reducing pain, and accelerating recovery in sports injury and neuro-rehabilitation patients.

Founded in 1965 by Dr. K. H. Sancheti as a small 10-bed facility, the hospital has evolved into a nationally recognised referral centre for complex orthopaedic conditions. It currently offers specialized services across joint replacement, spine care, trauma management, sports medicine, neuro-rehabilitation, and several other sub-specialties.

Commenting on the launch, Dr Parag Sancheti, Chairperson and Managing Director of Sancheti Hospital, said, “The AI-driven diagnostics and rehabilitation centre will enhance our sports medicine ecosystem, scale academic training, and introduce Mobile OrthoCare Units to reach underserved communities. The new 150-bedded facility includes advanced operating suites, multidisciplinary critical care, high-end diagnostics, precision-based robotic rehabilitation, and expanded specialty clinics. With this addition, Sancheti now operates with a combined capacity of more than 300 beds.”
