SP Medifort Hospital has introduced a specialised cancer care initiative for senior citizens, focusing on their unique medical and rehabilitation needs.
The hospital’s Department of Oncology launched SILVER (Senior Integrated Long-Term Value-Based Evaluation and Rehabilitation), alongside the opening of South Kerala’s first Dedicated Geriatric Oncology Clinic at its Thiruvananthapuram facility.
The initiative was inaugurated by Mayor V V Rajesh, who highlighted the growing need for healthcare services designed specifically for older adults. He said specialised facilities such as this could also strengthen Thiruvananthapuram’s position as a healthcare destination.
“Modern and future-ready healthcare infrastructure plays a significant role in developing Thiruvananthapuram as a healthcare destination, and institutions, including SP Medifort, with advanced infrastructure and specialised medical expertise, can contribute to strengthening the city’s healthcare ecosystem,” he said.
The programme also brought together cancer survivors and well-known actor Maniyanpilla Raju. Interacting with survivors, he encouraged cancer patients to remain positive and approach treatment with courage rather than fear.
SP Medifort Chairman and Managing Director Dr Ashokan, Joint Chairman and Managing Director Subramonian and other hospital officials were also present at the event.
The new clinic is expected to support a more comprehensive approach to cancer care for older patients, combining specialised oncology services with long-term evaluation, rehabilitation and supportive care.
