A new digital healthcare network aimed at improving coordination during emergencies and cardiac cases has been introduced by Apollo Hospitals Visakhapatnam. The hospital inaugurated its advanced Command Centre on 28 September 2026, ahead of World Heart Day.
The facility was inaugurated by Sri Palla Srinivasa Rao, MLA of Gajuwaka Constituency and State President of the Telugu Desam Party. Hospital clinicians, nurses, emergency care teams and technology partners attended the launch.
The Command Centre brings together several connected healthcare services, including a smart ambulance network, tele-ECG facilities across more than 15 peripheral nursing homes, connected medical devices, telemedicine services and an airport medical centre. The integrated setup is designed to facilitate the sharing of clinical information and improve coordination among specialists, emergency personnel and participating healthcare facilities.
One of the key features is the connected ambulance system. During patient transport, ECG readings, vital signs and other relevant medical information can be shared electronically with specialists at the hospital. This enables emergency and cardiac teams to review available clinical data, provide guidance when required and make preparations before the patient reaches the hospital.
Live demonstrations during the inauguration highlighted how digital communication and remote monitoring can extend specialist support beyond the hospital. The technology enables healthcare teams to remain connected with patients being transported in ambulances as well as those receiving initial care at peripheral facilities.
As part of the initiative, Apollo Hospitals Visakhapatnam has also introduced Apollo’s patented AI-based cardiac risk assessment tool. The system is designed to estimate a person’s 10-year cardiovascular disease risk and categorise it as low, moderate or high. Its assessment takes into account parameters such as age, lifestyle, family history and conditions including hypertension, diabetes and obesity.
The AI-based assessment is intended to improve awareness of cardiovascular risk and is not a substitute for professional medical evaluation or clinical decision-making.
The Command Centre represents an expansion of connected healthcare capabilities across pre-hospital, peripheral and hospital settings. Such systems can support more coordinated care when clinical information is transmitted reliably, interpreted appropriately and acted upon promptly by qualified healthcare professionals.
By linking ambulances, peripheral healthcare facilities and hospital specialists through digital platforms, the initiative seeks to strengthen communication and continuity of care for patients requiring emergency and cardiac services.
