Kochi: Regaining the ability to walk comfortably has transformed the lives of thousands of patients treated at Aster Medcity. The Kochi-based hospital has now crossed the milestone of 5,000 joint replacement surgeries, including more than 500 procedures performed with robotic assistance.
The achievement was celebrated through an event titled Ballerina, organised alongside Kerala Piravi Day. Actress Asha Sharath attended as the chief guest and interacted with patients who had recovered from joint-related conditions following surgery.
The orthopaedic programme achieved this milestone under the leadership of Dr. Vijaya Mohan S., Senior Consultant and Head of Orthopaedic Surgery, along with his team.
Highlighting the significance of the achievement, Dr. Vijaya Mohan said, “Successfully completing 5,000 joint replacement surgeries is a testament to the excellence and advanced technology of Aster Medcity’s Orthopaedics Department. It brings immense joy to see people who once struggled to even walk due to severe joint pain now fully recovered and joined for this gathering.”
The celebrations also featured a traditional Thiruvathirakkali performance, with Asha Sharath joining members of the hospital’s Orthopaedics Department. Patients who had regained mobility after their procedures participated alongside doctors and hospital staff, adding a personal touch to the occasion.
Among those present were Aster Medcity COO Dr. Shuhaib Kader, Chief of Medical Services Dr. T. R. John, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Industries A. P. M. Mohammed Hanish IAS, and celebrity couple Nikhil and Ramya, along with orthopaedic specialists and other hospital staff.
The milestone reflects Aster Medcity’s growing experience in joint replacement surgery and the increasing role of robotic technology in orthopaedic care, while highlighting the importance of restoring mobility and improving patients’ quality of life.
