CK Birla Hospital in Delhi has reached a significant achievement by performing 50 robot-assisted procedures for breast cancer, positioning itself as a key centre in North India for this specialized surgical method. The initiative has been led by Dr. Mandeep Singh Malhotra, Director – Surgical Oncology, who played a central role in introducing and steadily advancing robotic breast cancer surgery in the region. The accomplishment highlights both his surgical expertise and the hospital’s focus on delivering modern, patient-oriented oncology care.
Robotic breast surgery is considered among the latest advancements in breast cancer management. The technology allows surgeons to remove tumours using small, carefully placed incisions. This approach maintains cancer-treatment effectiveness while helping preserve the natural appearance of the breast. As a result, patients experience quicker healing and improved cosmetic and emotional outcomes. At CK Birla Hospital, women ranging from their early thirties to their seventies have undergone the procedure in recent months, with many resuming daily activities earlier and experiencing less physical discomfort and emotional stress compared with traditional surgery.
Commenting on the milestone, Dr. Mandeep Singh Malhotra said, “Completing 50 robot-assisted breast cancer surgeries is an important step in changing how breast cancer surgery is perceived and experienced by women. Our aim is not only to make patients cancer-free but also to preserve their confidence, dignity, and body image. Robotic surgery allows us to achieve precise cancer clearance through minimal, hidden incisions, which greatly reduces the emotional trauma often associated with breast surgery. Seeing patients recover well and regain confidence is what drives us to continue pushing surgical boundaries.”
He further explained that robotic methods have been particularly helpful for women eligible for nipple-sparing and skin-sparing operations, as the technology enables highly accurate tumour removal while retaining a natural look, which in turn supports emotional recovery.
Amit Sharma, Vice-President at CK Birla Hospital, Delhi, said, “This milestone reflects our commitment to bringing advanced, patient-centric breast cancer care to North India. We aim to combine clinical excellence with compassion, while expanding access and supporting wider adoption of these techniques across the medical community.”
