India’s Ayush Industry Grows 15x in a Decade, Strengthening Global Wellness Leadership

India’s Ayush sector has recorded a fifteenfold expansion over the past decade, solidifying its position as a major contributor to the global wellness economy.

In a post shared on X on Thursday, the government highlighted that Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy are driving a surge in global interest toward holistic and natural healthcare, positioning India as a key leader in the worldwide wellness movement.

The post read, “With a 15x surge in 10 years, India’s Ayush market has become a major global player! Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy are fueling worldwide demand for holistic and natural health solutions, placing India at the forefront of the global wellness movement.”

Earlier in the day, the 60th Annual Summit of the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI) took place in New Delhi under the theme ‘Power of Partnerships’. The event emphasized the importance of collaboration among industry and government, science and technology, and policy and practice to drive innovation, expand access, and enhance the quality of healthcare.

In a special video message, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilisers JP Nadda commended OPPI for its six decades of contribution to India’s pharmaceutical landscape. He noted that this year’s theme aligns with the national ethos of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.

Reflecting on India’s progress over the past ten years, Nadda highlighted the nation’s role in supplying medicines to more than 200 countries, meeting a significant share of the US and UK demand for generic medicines, and providing 60% of the world’s vaccines.

He also mentioned major national health initiatives, including Ayushman Bharat—which offers health protection to over 600 million citizens—and the Jan Aushadhi network, which has helped significantly reduce the cost of essential drugs.

Nadda further noted that India is rapidly emerging as a global centre for research and digital innovation, supported by more than 1,600 Global Capability Centres, including several focused on pharmaceuticals and life sciences, driving advanced development and technological progress.
