Kerala is moving forward with plans to develop a large-scale INR 3,500-crore Genome City, a specialised biotech and life-sciences hub within the Bio360 Life Sciences Park in Thonnakkal, Thiruvananthapuram.
Inspired by Hyderabad’s Genome Valley, the upcoming Genome City is envisioned as an integrated cluster combining biomanufacturing facilities, biotechnology research, pharmaceutical production, medtech innovation, and genome-focused scientific development. The formal project announcement is expected in early 2026.
The proposed hub will cover nearly 60 acres and is projected to create around 15,000 jobs once companies across biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology begin setting up operations.
Its strategic location—close to the international airport and the Vizhinjam port—is expected to significantly strengthen logistics for importing and exporting medical devices, laboratory equipment, and biotech materials.
Alongside this project, the state is also progressing with MedSpark, a dedicated medical-device innovation and development hub jointly established by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST). The MedSpark facility, with an investment of approximately INR 256 crore, is expected to complete its structural phase by January 2026.
Bio360 Life Sciences Park currently houses 22 companies with total investments of about INR 700 crore. With ongoing expansions and the upcoming Genome City and MedSpark projects, overall investments are expected to soon exceed INR 1,000 crore.
