KIMS Becomes India’s First Hospital with Aplio i800 EUS

Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital, Bhubaneswar, has taken a major step in advanced diagnostic care by installing the Aplio i800 endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) system, marking its first-ever clinical deployment in India. The advanced imaging platform, developed using Japanese technology, significantly enhances the ability to detect and evaluate complex conditions, particularly cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas.

The Aplio i800 belongs to the latest generation of EUS systems that seamlessly integrate endoscopy with high-definition ultrasound imaging. This combination allows clinicians to obtain highly detailed views of internal organs, supporting accurate diagnosis and improved procedural safety. The system also enables precise biopsy guidance and, in select cases, allows diagnostic assessment and therapeutic intervention to be performed during a single procedure—minimising the need for repeated invasive examinations.

Internationally, advanced EUS technologies are increasingly recognised for their role in early cancer detection, minimally invasive diagnostics, and data-supported clinical decision-making. The introduction of such a platform in India highlights the growing emphasis on adopting cutting-edge diagnostic tools that enhance patient outcomes while reducing procedural risks.

To commemorate the launch, KIMS Hospital’s Department of Gastroenterology hosted a national-level, hands-on training workshop centred on the new EUS system. The programme drew participation from eminent gastroenterologists and medical specialists from across the country, along with clinicians from various hospitals in Odisha. Attendees benefited from live demonstrations, expert-led instruction, and direct clinical exposure to the technology.

With the integration of a globally utilized diagnostic platform into its clinical services, KIMS Hospital aims to narrow the gap between international healthcare standards and regional medical practice. The initiative also reinforces the institution’s commitment to advancing specialist training, medical education, and high-quality patient care in eastern India.
