Max Healthcare Acquires Kalinga Hospital in Bhubaneswar For Rs 300 Cr

Max Healthcare Institute Ltd. is set to expand its presence in eastern India with a major acquisition in Bhubaneswar. The company will take a controlling stake in Kalinga Hospital Limited from Hospital Corporation of Orissa Inc., purchasing 58.4% equity under a deal valued at Rs 300 crore.

Located in Maitri Vihar, a central area of the city, the 250-bed NABH-accredited hospital sits on 10 acres and spans around 2.6 lakh sq. ft. The facility delivers care across key specialties such as neurology, cardiology, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, renal sciences, and oncology. It is supported by advanced diagnostic infrastructure, including a 128-slice CT scanner, 1.5T MRI, and a cath lab.

“Happy to announce our foray into Bhubaneshwar, an extremely attractive market, through the acquisition of a very well located and reputable hospital with significant operational upside and brownfield potential. Such prime opportunities are extremely rare”, said Abhay Soi, Chairman and Managing Director of Max Healthcare. “This acquisition allows us to strengthen our footprint and enables us to extend high quality healthcare services to a fast-growing region.”

The move positions Max Healthcare to tap into Bhubaneswar’s strong medical ecosystem, which includes a mix of public and private hospitals along with several medical colleges. The city draws patients not only from Odisha but also from neighbouring states like West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.

With this addition, Max Healthcare will further scale its network, which currently includes 20 facilities and around 5,200 beds, largely concentrated in North India. Its portfolio spans tertiary and quaternary hospitals across Delhi NCR, as well as locations such as Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Mohali, Bathinda, and Dehradun. The group also operates secondary care hospitals in Gurgaon and multiple medical centres in the NCR region and Punjab, including facilities run under public-private partnerships with the Punjab government.

This acquisition marks a strategic step for Max Healthcare Institute Ltd. as it deepens its reach into eastern India. By entering a high-growth healthcare market like Bhubaneswar, the company is well-positioned to enhance service delivery, tap rising demand, and strengthen its position as a leading healthcare provider in the country.
