No Cuts, No Scars: Max Hospital Nagpur Performs Advanced vNOTES Surgeries, Revolutionizing Women’s Healthcare in India

Max Super Speciality Hospital in Nagpur has taken a major step forward in women’s healthcare by successfully carrying out two advanced gynaecological procedures using Vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (vNOTES). The technique enables completely scar-free surgeries along with faster recovery.

Unlike conventional methods, vNOTES is a minimally invasive procedure performed through the natural vaginal opening, removing the need for external cuts on the abdomen. Surgeons use specialised instruments and a high-definition camera to perform precise operations, resulting in less pain, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays, and quicker return to routine life.

The hospital recently applied this technique in two different cases under its newly launched vNOTES programme, led by Dr. Mugdha Jungari Gill, Principal Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Dr. Sakshi Bansal, Senior Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

Explaining the procedures, Dr. Mugdha Jungari Gill said, “In the first case, a 33-year-old woman presented with pain in the abdomen for one year and had a large ovarian cyst around 12 cm approximately the size of an orange. Her main concern was preserving fertility and avoiding visible abdominal scars. We successfully removed the cyst using the vNOTES approach, ensuring a scarless outcome and enabling a swift, comfortable recovery. In the second case, a 50-year-old woman suffering from heavy menstrual bleeding for more than three years was diagnosed with a bulky uterus that required a hysterectomy along with removal of both fallopian tubes and ovaries. The procedure was carried out using the vNOTES technique, again without any abdominal incision. The patient experienced a smooth post-operative recovery and was in good health at follow-up.”

Highlighting the benefits of the approach, Dr. Sakshi Bansal said, “This technique is particularly beneficial for young and unmarried patients, where avoiding visible scars is a key concern. Compared to conventional approaches, vNOTES offers better recovery, less pain, and lower complication rates. Most patients can go home within 24 hours. Additionally, this technique enhances surgical visibility, making procedures safer and more precise.”

With the introduction of vNOTES, Max Super Speciality Hospital aims to expand access to advanced, minimally invasive and scarless treatment options for women across Central India, improving both clinical outcomes and patient comfort.
