Uttar Pradesh is gearing up to host a regional workshop on the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare in January 2026 as part of preparations for India’s upcoming Global AI Summit scheduled for February.
The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has entrusted the state’s IT and electronics department with organizing the two-day event, with support from Uttar Pradesh’s health and medical education departments.
Officials say the workshop’s primary goal is to accelerate AI-driven innovation across the state’s health systems, including improvements in medical care, public health management, and digital governance.
Preparation efforts are being coordinated by Additional Chief Secretary Amit Kumar Ghosh, who is leading planning and execution. The event will look at expanding telemedicine, promoting AI-enabled diagnostic tools, and strengthening ties between major medical institutions.
Ghosh highlighted several focal points, saying, “The elements include expanded telemedicine, AI-enabled diagnostics, stronger medical education linkages with SGPGI and tighter digital monitoring of govt schemes. These are core focus areas aimed at ensuring transparency and improving service delivery.”
He added that the workshop will also explore how telemedicine systems can be scaled and replicated cost-effectively in underserved regions, with contributions from institutions such as Wadhwani AI and Chandigarh University.
Medical education and research partners like Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and King George’s Medical University will also be involved to help shape discussions on AI’s role in improving healthcare access and outcomes.
