Max Healthcare Announces Major Expansion Plan to Add 8,300+ Hospital Beds Across India

Max Healthcare Institute Limited (MAXHEALTH), one of India’s leading hospital networks, has announced a major growth initiative that will add more than 8,300 beds across its system. The large-scale expansion is designed to substantially increase the company’s footprint and enhance its position in the country’s competitive healthcare landscape.

As outlined by the company, roughly 4,800 of these beds are expected to become operational over the next three to four years. This accelerated timeline highlights Max Healthcare’s focus on addressing the rising demand for high-quality medical care across India.

At present, Max Healthcare operates 20 facilities with a combined capacity of around 5,200 beds. Its portfolio includes advanced tertiary and quaternary care hospitals spread across major cities such as Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Mohali, Bathinda, Dehradun, Lucknow, and Nagpur.

Several expansion projects are already in progress. In Mumbai, the Nanavati-Max Tower 2 development will add 268 beds, increasing the existing 328-bed capacity by about 82 percent. The project has secured partial occupancy certification, and commissioning is underway in phases. In Delhi’s Saket complex, the Max Smart expansion will introduce an additional 400 beds across approximately 5 lakh square feet, with interior and MEP work ongoing and phased commissioning expected to begin in the third quarter of FY26. The company is also developing a 501-bed hospital in Gurugram’s Sector 56, where civil and MEP work continues. Meanwhile, the second tower at Max Mohali has recently been completed, adding about 160 beds to the existing 220-bed facility and incorporating advanced features, including a bunker for Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.

Though Max Healthcare has not shared the financial outlay for this large expansion, its recent results suggest it is operating from a strong financial base. For the first half of FY26, the company posted net revenue of ₹5,039 crore, operating EBITDA of ₹1,308 crore, and an EBITDA margin of 25.9 percent.

The expansion is expected to further solidify the company’s standing in urban markets, which typically see higher insurance coverage and greater demand for advanced healthcare services. Reflecting on the growth strategy, Chairman and Managing Director Abhay Soi said, “This significant capacity expansion reflects our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare across India. We are strategically positioning ourselves to meet the growing demand for advanced medical services in the country.”

As Max Healthcare advances its extensive expansion program, industry observers will be monitoring how the additional capacity shapes its competitive strength and financial trajectory in the years ahead.
