Max Healthcare Institute Ltd is accelerating its expansion strategy, aiming to scale up to 10,000 beds over the next 3–4 years. The move is designed to meet rising demand from India’s growing middle class while strengthening the country’s position in global medical tourism, said Chairman and Managing Director Abhay Soi.
Currently operating around 5,200 beds, the company expects capacity to reach nearly 6,700 beds by the end of the ongoing financial year. As part of this growth, Max has already launched new facilities, including a 300-bed unit in Mumbai and a 200-bed hospital in Mohali, Punjab. A 500-bed facility in Gurugram is also set to become operational within the next 6–7 months.
Highlighting recent developments, the company inaugurated a 400-bed tower at Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital in Saket, New Delhi. The facility is equipped with over 120 critical care beds, 10 modular operation theatres, and advanced cath labs, supporting specialised treatments in cardiac sciences, oncology, neurosciences, renal care, gastroenterology, paediatrics, robotic surgery, and organ transplants.
The expansion aligns with Max Healthcare’s earlier announcement to invest ₹6,000 crore by 2028 to add 3,700 beds across key locations. However, Soi clarified that the upcoming phase will require an additional ₹4,000–₹5,000 crore, which will be funded entirely through internal accruals.
Emphasising the company’s international reach, Soi noted that Max Healthcare currently treats patients from 145 countries, with its medical tourism segment growing at around 25% annually.
“All the new generation facilities will be catering to and will be spearheading India’s desire to be a global medical tourism hub.”
He added that India continues to attract patients from regions such as Africa, Eastern Europe, and countries like Sudan, with demand expected to rise further.
Soi also pointed out that to compete with established global destinations like Turkey and Thailand, India must invest in world-class infrastructure.
“Our Indian clinical talent is the best. What you need to do is support it with the best-in-class infrastructure and technology and that is exactly what we are doing,” he asserted.
With sustained investments and capacity expansion, Max Healthcare is reinforcing its position as a leading force in India’s healthcare sector while also targeting the rapidly growing global medical tourism market. Its focus on advanced infrastructure and clinical excellence is expected to drive leadership growth, enabling the company to meet rising domestic demand and attract international patients with world-class facilities.
