India’s specialty healthcare sector is witnessing strong investor interest, with Cloudnine Hospitals attracting global private equity firms for a major investment. TPG Capital and Permira have reportedly emerged as the leading contenders to acquire a significant minority stake in the hospital chain in a transaction that could value the company at nearly Rs 11,000 crore.
The proposed deal is expected to facilitate the complete exit of True North, which has held a 25% stake in Cloudnine since its investment in 2015. In addition to the secondary stake sale, the company may raise fresh capital by issuing 5–10% new equity, subject to its funding requirements and the final valuation agreed with the incoming investor.
Meanwhile, existing shareholders Temasek and TPG NewQuest, which together control around 52% of the company, are expected to retain their investments after the transaction.
Cloudnine’s growing scale and expansion strategy have significantly strengthened its position in India’s women and children’s healthcare segment. A major milestone came earlier this year when the Bengaluru-headquartered hospital network acquired a majority stake in Apollo Cradle and Apollo Fertility in a transaction valued at approximately Rs 1,550 crore. The acquisition expanded the group’s footprint in maternity, neonatal, paediatric and fertility services, creating a combined network of more than 55 centres across several major Indian cities.
Established in 2006, Cloudnine has evolved into one of India’s largest specialty hospital chains dedicated to women’s and children’s healthcare. The company is estimated to have generated nearly Rs 2,000 crore in revenue and around Rs 300 crore in EBITDA during FY26, reflecting sustained demand for premium maternal and paediatric healthcare services.
The ongoing investment process is being managed by Allegro Capital, with prospective investors expected to submit binding bids after completing due diligence.
The proposed transaction also reflects a broader trend in India’s healthcare investment landscape. Private equity firms are increasingly targeting focused healthcare providers with strong clinical specialisation rather than diversified hospital networks. Rising urban healthcare demand, increasing disposable incomes, and continued consolidation within the hospital industry have further strengthened investor confidence in niche healthcare platforms.
If finalised, the Cloudnine investment will rank among the most significant private equity transactions in India’s specialty hospital sector. Beyond the financial value of the deal, it highlights the growing importance of dedicated women and child healthcare providers and signals continued investor confidence in India’s expanding healthcare market.
