Brainlab and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop North India’s first Centre of Excellence for Brain & Spine, supported by Brainlab’s Loop-X Mobile Imaging Robot.
The partnership, announced in New Delhi on September 21, is aimed at strengthening access to advanced neurosurgical and spine care while creating opportunities for clinical training, technology demonstration and knowledge exchange.
The new centre will bring together Amrita Hospital’s expertise in neurology and spine care with Brainlab’s surgical navigation and intraoperative imaging technologies. It will focus on complex brain and spine procedures and provide a platform for surgeons and other healthcare professionals to gain experience with advanced surgical technologies.
At the centre, Loop-X will provide 2D and 3D cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging during surgery. The robotic mobile system can generate detailed images within the operating room and integrate them with surgical navigation systems.
This allows surgical teams to check anatomy, verify implant positioning and obtain additional images during procedures when needed. The imaging field can also be adjusted according to the area being treated, which Brainlab says can help optimise radiation exposure.
Aseem Malhotra, Managing Director, Brainlab India, said the collaboration would help integrate advanced imaging and navigation technologies into surgical practice.
“With Loop-X®, our mobile imaging robot, we are bringing intraoperative 2D and 3D imaging together with robotic functionality to support connected surgical workflows,” Malhotra said.
He added that the system supports patient-specific imaging, intraoperative registration and accuracy checks within the operating room.
Dr Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, said the initiative would enhance the hospital’s capabilities in complex neurological and spinal procedures.
“With advanced intraoperative imaging and navigation, we can help our clinical teams by providing better visibility during surgery and allowing for verification in the operating room itself,” Singh said.
Loop-X combines robotic positioning with 2D and 3D imaging and offers an adjustable field of view based on clinical requirements. Its large gantry opening is designed to accommodate different patient positions, while its robotic configuration allows imaging to be repeated during surgery whenever required.
The technology can provide updated anatomical information without moving the patient out of the operating room for conventional imaging. This enables imaging to be integrated more closely with Brainlab’s surgical navigation ecosystem.
Through the Centre of Excellence, Brainlab and Amrita Hospital aim to build a dedicated hub for advanced brain and spine surgery, professional training and technology-led clinical innovation.
The initiative is expected to strengthen specialised neurosurgical and spine care capabilities and support wider access to advanced treatment across North India.
