Chennai, October 22, 2026: The Tamil Nadu Medical and Pediatric Oncologist Society (TAMPOS) in association with Sakra Life foundation and Gleneagles Hospital Chennai, part of the Fortis Healthcare Network, successfully conducted “Midterm Conference 2026 “ on October 11, 2026, in Chennai. Themed “Advancing Cancer Care Through Knowledge, Collaboration and Compassion,” the conference brought together around 150 medical oncologists from across Tamil Nadu to share clinical expertise, discuss emerging developments in oncology and explore ways to improve cancer care delivery.

The programme covered artificial intelligence in oncology, physician burnout, medico-legal aspects of oncology practice, immunotherapy, targeted therapies and precision medicine. Sessions also addressed advances in the management of lung, gastric, ovarian, breast, renal and other cancers, along with emerging approaches such as CAR-T cell therapy. Postgraduate paper presentations and a quiz programme gave young oncologists a platform to showcase their knowledge and engage in academic learning.

A key highlight was the discussion on artificial intelligence in oncology, which explored the growing role of technology in supporting clinical decision-making and advancing cancer diagnosis and treatment. The conference also addressed burnout in medical oncology practice, recognising that the emotional demands and professional pressures faced by cancer specialists can affect their well-being and the quality of patient care. Discussions on medico-legal aspects further emphasised the importance of ethical, responsible and patient-centred clinical practice.

Dr. V. Arun Ramanan, Clinical Lead and Senior Consultant, Department of Medical Oncology, Gleneagles Hospital, and Programme Director of the TAMPOS Midterm Conference 2026, said. “Cancer care is continuously evolving, with new treatment approaches and technologies creating opportunities to improve patient outcomes. However, scientific progress becomes truly meaningful only when its benefits reach patients in clinical practice. Through TAMPOS, we aim to bring oncologists together to exchange knowledge, discuss challenges and strengthen our collective efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of cancer care across Tamil Nadu.”

Dr. Arun Ramanan highlighted the importance of making appropriate, evidence-based cancer treatment accessible irrespective of socioeconomic background or geographical location. Stronger collaboration among specialists, better referral pathways, greater awareness and the responsible adoption of technological advances can improve outcomes and help patients and families make more informed decisions.

The conference also stressed the need to support the mental well-being of doctors and create sustainable working environments for healthcare professionals. A well-supported medical workforce is essential for delivering safe, compassionate and effective cancer care.
