avant bkg hospitals Mysuru Introduces Advanced AI-Powered HD IVUS Technology to Enhance Precision in Cardiac Care

Mysuru: Patients in Mysuru and nearby districts are set to gain access to more advanced cardiac treatment options following the introduction of next-generation Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled High-Definition Intravascular Ultrasound (HD IVUS) technology at avant bkg hospitals. The hospital has also announced plans to launch Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) services.

Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar inaugurated the new technology at the hospital in the presence of senior medical professionals, including Dr. T.N. Balakrishna Gowda, Managing Director and Chief Orthopaedic Robotic Surgeon; Dr. J. Rajagopal, Director of Cardiology and Chief Interventional Cardiologist; and Dr. S.C. Madhuprakash, Director of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) and Senior CTVS Surgeon.

Advanced Cardiac Care Closer to Patients

Speaking at the launch, Yaduveer Wadiyar highlighted the importance of strengthening specialised healthcare facilities in Mysuru to reduce the need for patients to travel to major cities for complex treatments.

“The development of advanced healthcare facilities in Mysuru is an important step towards improving access to specialised treatment for people across the region. The introduction of technologies such as IVUS, alongside the development of minimally invasive cardiac services enables patients from city and surrounding districts to access advanced heart treatments closer to home, without having to travel to larger metropolitan centres for many complex procedures.”

Dr. T.N. Balakrishna Gowda said the hospital aims to establish Mysuru as a destination for advanced medical treatment by combining modern technology, specialist expertise and comprehensive patient care.

“Our vision has always been to strengthen Mysuru as a destination for advanced medical care. Along with investing in modern technologies such as IVUS, our plans to introduce MICS reflect our commitment to expanding treatment options for eligible patients. By bringing together specialised clinical expertise, modern infrastructure and comprehensive care, we aim to make advanced healthcare more accessible to people in Mysuru and neighbouring districts.”

AI-Enabled IVUS to Improve Precision in Heart Procedures

The newly introduced HD IVUS technology is designed to provide detailed images from inside coronary arteries, helping cardiologists assess blood vessel dimensions, plaque characteristics and the placement and expansion of stents during treatment.

Dr. J. Rajagopal emphasised that accurate assessment is particularly important when treating complex coronary artery disease.

“In interventional cardiology, precision is critical, particularly when treating complex coronary artery disease. IVUS gives us a detailed view from inside the blood vessel, assess the vessel’s internal dimensions, plaque characteristics and the position and expansion of stents and guide stent placement more accurately. This technology strengthens our ability to plan and perform complex angioplasties with greater confidence.”

By providing detailed information about the inside of blood vessels, IVUS can help specialists make better-informed decisions during angioplasty and stent implantation.

Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Planned

Alongside the technology launch, avant bkg hospitals announced plans to introduce MICS, which can enable selected heart operations through smaller incisions rather than conventional open surgical approaches.

Dr. S.C. Madhuprakash said cardiac treatment should be tailored to each patient’s condition, with options ranging from catheter-based procedures to specialised surgical interventions.

“Comprehensive cardiac care means offering patients the right treatment based on their individual condition — whether that involves a catheter-based intervention, valve repair or replacement, bypass surgery or another specialised surgical approach. The planned introduction of MICS will further expand the options we can consider for appropriately selected patients, with the aim of reducing surgical trauma where clinically suitable.”

Minimally invasive techniques may reduce surgical trauma and support recovery in eligible patients, depending on the procedure and individual clinical circumstances.

Strengthening Mysuru’s Cardiac Healthcare Infrastructure

The introduction of AI-enabled HD IVUS and the planned expansion into minimally invasive cardiac surgery reflect avant bkg hospitals’ efforts to broaden access to specialised heart care in Mysuru. These developments could provide patients across the region with more treatment options closer to home.

With investments in advanced imaging technology and plans for minimally invasive heart surgery, avant bkg hospitals is working to strengthen Mysuru’s position in specialised cardiac care and improve access to modern treatment for patients across the surrounding districts.
