Strengthening its focus on proactive and personalized healthcare, Fortis Hospitals has introduced a Preventive Genomics Clinic across its Bengaluru network. The initiative marks a significant step toward integrating advanced genetic science into routine clinical care.
The facility was formally inaugurated by Padmanabhan Balaram, alongside senior doctors, hospital leaders, and invited guests.
Designed to support early diagnosis and tailored treatment, the clinic will provide genetic testing, specialist counselling, and individualized care plans. By utilizing genomic insights, clinicians aim to identify inherited risks, improve diagnostic accuracy for complex illnesses, and deliver more targeted therapies.
The clinic’s services span a broad spectrum, including whole genome and exome sequencing, hereditary cancer screening, pharmacogenomics, prenatal and newborn screening, as well as specialized areas like cardio, neuro, and ortho genomics. Genetic counselling and cancer-focused genomic testing will also be key offerings.
“I congratulate Fortis Hospitals on this important initiative. Genomics is playing an increasingly important role in shaping the future of healthcare by enabling deeper insights into disease mechanisms and individual risk profiles. Initiatives like this are critical in bridging advanced science with clinical practice, helping move healthcare towards a more preventive and personalized approach,” said Prof. Padmanabhan Balaram.
Highlighting the clinical impact, Dr. Niti Krishna Raizada, Principal Director, Medical Oncology & Haemato-Oncology, noted, “Many serious conditions, especially cancers, have a genetic link that can be identified early to avert the disease and mortality risk. Through Preventive Genomics Clinic, we aim to empower patients with knowledge of their risks and enable early timely intervention, improving outcomes and supporting preventive care.”
Dr. Vivek Jawali, Chairman of Cardiac Sciences, emphasized the shift in treatment models: “Genomics is transforming how we approach disease management, shifting from a one-size-fits-all approach to a personalized and precise care. This clinic, brings together multiple specialties to leverage genetic insights for better diagnosis and treatment outcomes.”
Echoing the importance of early awareness, Dr. Ananth Rao, VP & Business Head, added, “With growing awareness around preventive healthcare, there is an increasing need for advanced diagnostics that help individuals understand their health risks early. This initiative strengthens our commitment to delivering accessible, patient-centric, and future-ready healthcare.”
With the launch of its Preventive Genomics Clinic, Fortis Hospitals is advancing precision medicine in India, combining cutting-edge science with preventive care to help patients make informed health decisions and improve long-term outcomes.
