Rainbow Children’s Hospital, a leading national network known for its paediatric and perinatal care, has announced an ambitious growth strategy that will see the addition of close to 900 beds across India over the next three years.
A significant share of this expansion—about 450 beds—will be developed in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), marking the group’s strongest push yet into North India.
Sharing details of the plan, the hospital’s founding chairman, Dr. Ramesh Kancharla, said, “Our next big strategic bet is Delhi NCR. NCR is the future of children’s healthcare for North India, with Gurugram emerging as a major healthcare hub. Over the next two years, we will add around 450 beds in NCR across two hospitals, one 325-bed flagship and one 125-bed spoke hospital.”
He added that the organisation intends to expand its national footprint beyond its traditional Southern markets, noting, “Over the next three years, we aim to add close to 900 beds across key high-growth markets, ensuring advanced paediatric and perinatal care is accessible to more families.”
As part of the broader development pipeline, the group will also increase capacity in several major cities, including nearly 90 beds in Electronic City and around 60 beds in Hennur in Bengaluru, approximately 150 beds in Pune, and close to 130 beds in Coimbatore.
The hospital chain expects to invest around INR 900 crore to support this multi-city expansion. The funding strategy blends greenfield projects with a satellite-hospital model, allowing for quicker scaling in high-potential locations.
Explaining the financial approach, Dr. Kancharla noted, “We will use a mix of greenfield and asset-light satellite models. Satellite hospitals cost around INR 70 lakh per bed, while asset-heavy hospitals like Gurgaon will cost more.” He further stated that the company currently has about ₹500 crore on its balance sheet, supported by strong operational cash flows, and does not anticipate needing external capital.
Established in 1999 with a focus on neonatal intensive care, paediatrics and emergency services, Rainbow added obstetrics and perinatal care to its portfolio in 2007. The network today operates around 2,300 beds across its hospitals.
