Dr. Amita Shah, Chairman – Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Robotic Laparoscopy & Endoscopy Surgery at Manipal Hospital Gurugram, has performed 41 robotic gynaecological surgeries in 90 days, becoming the first gynaecologist in India to achieve the milestone.
The achievement highlights the growing role of robotic and minimally invasive surgery in treating complex gynaecological conditions, particularly endometriosis. The condition affects nearly 190 million women globally and can cause severe pain, infertility and damage to reproductive organs. Its symptoms, however, are often mistaken for routine menstrual discomfort.
The cases treated by Dr. Shah included women with deep endometriosis, large endometriotic cysts, infertility and extensive pelvic adhesions. One 36-year-old patient had a cyst comparable in size to an 18-week pregnancy, while another 31-year-old woman had cysts on both sides along with adhesions involving the fallopian tubes. A 29-year-old patient was also able to conceive following fertility-preserving surgery.
Advanced laparoscopic and robot-assisted procedures allowed surgeons to remove complex disease with greater precision while preserving healthy pelvic tissue and reproductive function wherever possible.

The milestone reflects the expanding use of robotic technology in women’s healthcare.
