Park Medi World has signed a long-term operations and management (O&M) agreement for a 300-bed multi-super speciality hospital in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The existing hospital, spread across around 1.2 lakh square feet of covered space, will undergo renovation, modernisation and re-equipment before becoming operational by the end of the current financial year. Park Group will manage the facility under the agreement for 28 years.
The company will follow an asset-light approach, taking full responsibility for the hospital’s operations and management while investing in upgrades, infrastructure and medical equipment. Unlike a conventional acquisition or greenfield project, the model does not require Park Group to make an upfront investment in the land or building.
This approach enables the Group to expand its bed capacity faster while requiring significantly less capital than developing or acquiring a hospital outright.
Once upgraded to Park Group’s clinical and infrastructure standards, the Kanpur facility will provide a broad range of multi-super speciality healthcare services to residents of the city and nearby areas.
Kanpur, one of Uttar Pradesh’s major cities, is an important industrial and commercial centre with a large urban and semi-urban population base. The state itself has a significant gap in healthcare infrastructure. Despite being India’s most populous state and one of its most densely populated, its hospital-bed availability per 1,000 people remains well below the national average and the WHO benchmark of 3 beds per 1,000 people.
Dr. Ankit Gupta, managing director, Park Medi World, said: “Kanpur is an important addition to our Uttar Pradesh footprint.
The operations-and-management model allows us to bring a well-located, established facility up to Park Group standards and into service quickly without the capital outlay or lead time of an acquisition or a greenfield build.”
Park Group is North India’s second-largest hospital chain, with 17 hospitals and a combined capacity of 4,300 beds as of now. With the addition of the Kanpur facility, the Group is also working on integrating six more hospitals and increasing capacity at three existing facilities.
The Kanpur project strengthens Park Medi World’s presence in Uttar Pradesh while using an asset-light expansion strategy. The addition of 300 beds, along with its wider expansion pipeline, is expected to increase the Group’s healthcare capacity across the region.
