Lilavati Hospital’s Global & India Expansion: Mauritius and GIFT City Projects Lead Growth

Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre is accelerating its growth strategy with major projects in both India and overseas markets. The institution has announced its first global venture in Mauritius, alongside a significant domestic expansion in Gujarat’s GIFT City.

The Mauritius project involves an investment of ₹1,200 crore to develop a 200-bed hospital integrated with a medical education campus. Work on the project is already in progress, with completion targeted within 18 months.

“We have tied up with the Government of Mauritius for opening a 200-bed hospital and a facility for 400 medical students,” said Prashant Mehta, Permanent Trustee of Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust (LKMMT).

The development will bring together advanced healthcare services and academic training in a single ecosystem. Spread across nearly 10 acres of land provided by the Mauritian government, the facility will support both patient care and medical education simultaneously.

Strategically, the hospital is expected to serve as a key healthcare center for the African region, where access to specialized treatment remains limited. Its location, combined with a strong Indian diaspora presence, adds to its regional importance.

Back in India, Lilavati Hospital has initiated operations at its new unit in GIFT City, Gujarat—marking its first venture outside Mumbai. The project, with an investment exceeding ₹700 crore, is a 375-bed multi-specialty hospital currently offering outpatient services and free health camps.

“The initial phase of Lilavati Hospital in GIFT City has commenced… For the first 30 days we are not charging anything,” Mehta said.

The GIFT City facility is being developed in phases, with 120 beds becoming available in the first stage. While OPD services are already running, construction work is ongoing. The hospital plans to introduce advanced features such as robotic-assisted surgeries, along with emergency care, dialysis, and day-care services.

Looking ahead, the hospital aims to complete the project by March 2027. Plans are also underway to introduce air ambulance services to facilitate organ transplants and cater to international patients.

“This hospital in GIFT City will be a medical monument for India,” said Rajiv Mehta, highlighting its medical tourism potential.

In addition, Lilavati Hospital has entered into a collaboration with the Mayo Clinic to strengthen clinical training and enable technology exchange. This partnership is expected to elevate healthcare standards across its expanding network.

With parallel developments in Mauritius and GIFT City, Lilavati Hospital is positioning itself as a global healthcare player. By combining clinical excellence, education, and international collaborations, the institution is steadily building a strong footprint in both domestic and global healthcare landscapes.
