Medanta Noida Introduces Structural Heart Programme with First Ever TAVI Procedures in India

Medanta‑The Medicity in Noida has inaugurated its dedicated Structural Heart Interventional Cardiology Programme by successfully conducting its first three Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) operations, expanding access to cutting‑edge, minimally invasive cardiac treatments in the Delhi‑NCR area.

All three procedures involved male patients in their early 60s who were diagnosed with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis, a progressive and potentially life‑threatening narrowing of the heart’s aortic valve that can greatly diminish quality of life if left untreated. Following thorough clinical assessments, Medanta’s cardiac specialists concluded that TAVI was the most appropriate intervention given each individual’s medical situation.

The interventions were performed by a multidisciplinary structural heart team led by Dr. Parneesh Arora, Dr. Amit Malik, and Dr. Ranjan Mody, with assistance from Dr. Vineet Bhatia, Dr. Waseem Farooqi, and Dr. Aakash Vijay. According to the hospital, the smooth outcomes reflect robust collaborative planning and readiness for complex structural heart work.

Unlike traditional open‑heart surgery, which requires opening the chest, TAVI is done via a catheter — commonly through a small puncture in the groin — allowing the valve to be replaced without a sternotomy and generally enabling quicker recovery. This catheter‑based approach offers a vital alternative for patients who may be at high surgical risk.

Each patient underwent a detailed pre‑procedure evaluation by a specialised Heart Team that included interventional cardiologists, imaging experts, cardiac anesthetists, surgeons, and skilled nursing professionals. The procedures were completed successfully, and the patients showed marked improvement during their recovery period, the hospital said.
