Assam’s Chief Minister has unveiled a significant expansion of the state’s healthcare workforce, announcing the appointment of 400 doctors and medical officers to strengthen public hospitals. With this latest intake, the total number of personnel in the public health sector has surpassed 120,000.
The move is part of a broader strategy to enhance healthcare delivery across the state. Assam aims to more than double its number of medical colleges-from 13 to 29-by 2030, while scaling up primary care services through a vast network of health and wellness centers.
A large portion of the new recruits includes specialist doctors, particularly in maternal and child health, reflecting the state’s focus on improving critical care areas and ensuring better access to quality medical services across both urban and rural regions.
