The Azim Premji Foundation, through Azim Premji University, is moving ahead with plans to develop a comprehensive healthcare and medical education campus in Jharkhand. The project is designed to enhance healthcare access, medical training, and research capabilities in the state.
At the heart of the development will be a 1,270-bed hospital featuring advanced healthcare facilities, including emergency and trauma services, intensive care units, operating theatres, daycare centres, and a range of specialty departments. The facility is expected to serve a large population, particularly residents of rural and semi-urban areas who often face limited access to quality healthcare.
The campus will also include a medical college offering undergraduate and postgraduate education, along with a nursing and allied health sciences institution to help build a skilled healthcare workforce.
Situated around 45 kilometres from Ranchi, the proposed centre aims to emerge as a leading institution for patient care, medical education, and research. The project is expected to strengthen the overall healthcare ecosystem in the region while addressing the needs of underserved communities.
The initiative expands on the Foundation’s ongoing healthcare and education investments in Jharkhand, including its Ranchi campus project that encompasses a multispecialty hospital, university, medical college, and allied health institutions.
According to reports, construction of the philanthropy-driven healthcare project is underway, with completion targeted for January 2027.
Separately, the Foundation has also announced plans to establish a 1,000-bed super-speciality hospital in Bengaluru. The proposed facility will focus on delivering affordable tertiary care services, including organ transplantation, for patients who may otherwise struggle to access advanced treatment.
The Bengaluru hospital is also expected to be empanelled under government-backed health insurance programmes such as Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka, helping eligible patients receive treatment without significant financial burden.
With large-scale investments in both Jharkhand and Bengaluru, the Azim Premji Foundation is significantly expanding its role in India’s healthcare sector. These projects are expected to improve access to quality medical services, strengthen healthcare education, and support long-term medical research and innovation.
