Major Boost to Blood Cancer Care: Fortis Gurugram Opens India’s First Myeloma & Lymphoma Centre of Excellence

Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurugram, has launched a specialised Centre of Excellence for Myeloma and Lymphoma, which the hospital says is the first facility of its kind in India focused exclusively on these blood cancers.

The newly established centre aims to offer comprehensive and personalised treatment by bringing together specialists from multiple disciplines under one roof. Experts in haematology, haemato-oncology, pathology, genomics, radiation oncology, stem-cell transplantation, cellular therapies and clinical research will collaborate to deliver integrated patient care.

According to FMRI, the initiative has been designed to address the increasing complexity of blood cancer management through multidisciplinary expertise, advanced diagnostics and customised treatment pathways.

Dr Rahul Bhargava, Principal Director and Chief, Haematology, Haemato-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant at FMRI, highlighted the centre’s vision of translating scientific advancements into patient-centric therapies.

“The centre brings together expertise across genomics, genetics, pathology, translational science, haematology, radiation oncology, cellular therapy, CAR-T and clinical research, giving patients access to advanced diagnostics, therapies and clinical innovations,” he said.

Emphasising the role of precision medicine, Dr Shrinidhi Nathany, Consultant, Molecular Haematology and Oncology, noted that genomic technologies are transforming the understanding and treatment of blood cancers.

“Advanced genomic testing allows us to identify actionable mutations, monitor the disease more precisely and connect patients to targeted therapies and clinical trials,” Nathany said.

Yash Rawat, Senior Vice President and SBU Head at FMRI, stated that the centre is expected to become an important referral destination for patients requiring specialised care for myeloma and lymphoma. He added that the facility would also support physician training and contribute to ongoing clinical research in the field.

The hospital said the centre has been established with the objective of improving patient outcomes, expanding access to innovative treatment options and advancing research in haematologic oncology.

The launch of this dedicated Centre of Excellence reflects the growing emphasis on specialised and precision-based cancer care in India. By combining expertise, research and advanced treatment technologies, the initiative has the potential to strengthen the country’s approach to managing complex blood cancers such as myeloma and lymphoma.
