A British couple undergoing IVF treatment in Lucknow has shared a positive experience of India’s healthcare system, with the husband describing the country’s medical services as faster, more efficient and more affordable than what he has experienced in the UK.
Dave Flew, who is in Lucknow with his wife for IVF treatment at Max Speciality Hospital, spoke about their experience in an Instagram video titled, “The Indian healthcare system blew my mind.”
Flew said the treatment process had exceeded his expectations, particularly in terms of the speed of appointments, diagnostic testing and availability of results. He also praised the hospital’s facilities and said the staff at the international lounge had been “so helpful”.
“The health system in India is much better than the UK, let me tell you why! My wife and I are undergoing IVF treatment here at Max Speciality Hospital, Lucknow. The whole process has been a complete revelation, if I’m honest,” said Flew.
He highlighted the contrast in the time taken for diagnostic services in the two countries. According to Flew, receiving an X-ray report in the UK could take up to a month, whereas he was able to obtain test results in India within a much shorter timeframe.
“Just the timely nature of an appointment; I was told to go and have various tests done within the same building. I go and have those tests done, you get the results within 15 minutes to an hour tops. That doesn’t happen in the UK. You can wait a month or more just for X-ray results,” he said.
Flew also pointed to the cost of treatment as another factor that had impressed him. He said the combination of quicker access, efficient diagnostics and relatively affordable treatment had been difficult for him to comprehend.
“So to be able to come here to a place like this and have this kind of treatment at such a very cost-effective price point, and have all of this treatment so fast, I am struggling to get my head around it!”
Growing Interest in India for Medical Treatment
The couple’s experience highlights some of the factors that continue to attract international patients to India, including comparatively affordable treatment, access to advanced healthcare facilities and faster diagnostic and clinical services. Experiences shared by international patients can also contribute to India’s growing visibility as a destination for medical tourism and fertility care.
