The Uttar Pradesh government is moving ahead with plans to develop a major healthcare hub in Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar, as part of efforts to strengthen medical infrastructure and expand the state’s presence in the medical value tourism sector. The proposed project is estimated to attract an investment of nearly INR 5,000 crore.
The initiative comes in the backdrop of the Union Budget 2026-27, which proposed support for states to establish five regional medical hubs in partnership with the private sector to position India as a leading destination for Medical Value Tourism (MVT). These hubs are envisioned as integrated ecosystems bringing together healthcare delivery, research and medical education.
Under the proposal, the UP Cares Jewar Regional Medical Hub will be developed across approximately 200 acres and is planned as a comprehensive healthcare city. The campus is expected to accommodate multi-speciality hospitals, educational institutions, research facilities, diagnostic centres, rehabilitation services and other allied healthcare infrastructure within a single location.
Reports indicate that the project may receive financial backing from the World Bank, which has already prepared a preliminary project report. Representatives of the global financial institution are expected to present the proposal before Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary S. P. Goyal.
An official associated with the project said, “The hub proposed in Jewar will house AYUSH centres, MVT facilitation centres, advanced diagnostic infrastructure, post-treatment care and rehabilitation facilities,” adding, “Besides improving healthcare access for domestic and international patients, the hub is also expected to generate large-scale employment for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.”
Jewar has rapidly emerged as one of the state’s key infrastructure corridors, supported by the upcoming international airport, expressway connectivity and expanding logistics network. Officials believe this strategic location could help the medical hub attract patients from across India as well as international markets while supporting Uttar Pradesh’s wider investment and healthcare development plans.
If implemented as proposed, the Jewar Regional Medical Hub could become a significant addition to India’s healthcare landscape. By combining treatment, education, research and post-care services in one ecosystem, the project has the potential to strengthen healthcare access, create employment opportunities and further enhance India’s medical tourism ambitions.
