Aster DM Healthcare, together with Quality Care India Ltd. (QCIL), has revealed an ambitious healthcare expansion plan in Kerala involving an investment of ₹1,661 crore. The initiative will add 1,315 hospital beds across the state over the next few years, significantly strengthening healthcare capacity.
Speaking after a meeting with Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, Aster founder and chairman Azad Moopen said the company will contribute 834 of the planned beds. A key component of the expansion is a new 454-bed multi-specialty hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, which is expected to enhance access to advanced medical services in southern Kerala.
Once completed, the expanded Aster-QCIL network will comprise 11 hospitals in Kerala with a combined capacity of 4,575 beds. The enlarged network is expected to boost the availability of specialized tertiary and quaternary care services while reinforcing the group’s presence in the state.
The healthcare provider currently employs more than 18,400 professionals. The expansion project is projected to create nearly 7,900 additional employment opportunities, providing a significant boost to both the healthcare sector and the state’s economy.
During discussions with the Chief Minister, Moopen also explored opportunities related to healthcare infrastructure development, medical education, workforce training, technology adoption, employment generation, medical tourism, and charitable healthcare initiatives.
“Kerala occupies a special place in Aster’s journey and continues to be one of our most strategic markets. The State’s highly skilled doctors, nurses and allied healthcare professionals are respected across India and globally. We remain committed to partnering with Kerala in its vision of becoming one of India’s leading healthcare destinations,” he said.
In addition, Moopen highlighted Aster’s ₹120-crore Cancer Care CSR Programme, which aims to establish advanced cancer treatment facilities across various parts of India over the next three years.
The programme’s first project will be launched in Wayanad, where a state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator (LINAC) facility will be installed. The centre is expected to improve access to advanced radiation therapy for patients in underserved areas, reducing the challenges posed by distance and treatment costs.
The planned investment marks one of the largest healthcare expansion initiatives in Kerala in recent years. By increasing hospital capacity, creating jobs, and improving access to advanced treatment services, Aster DM Healthcare aims to play a major role in strengthening the state’s healthcare ecosystem while supporting its emergence as a leading medical and wellness destination.
